The aim of this review is to investigate the effect of thyroxine/levothyroxine treatment in patients on long waiting lists. A subgroup with acute thyroiditis was identified, to be considered for thyroxine plus treatment, before initiation of therapy, if a satisfactory response for the first 12 months is achieved. Methods The clinical situation of a group 18 patients with primary hypothyroidism was identified following consultation with the thyroid-related clinic (T3 clinic) at a tertiary centre in Singapore from August through November 2013. Each of the patients was seen in same day and a second consultation was done at 8-9 month intervals during April to September 2013. Only patients who showed no evidence of chronic symptoms and adequate thyroid antibodies were considered for thyroxine plus and levothyroxine therapy.
